In this guide, I will try my best to cover the important and essential aspects that every single person entering the Affiliate Marketing industry should consider. The point of this guide is to get a total noob that wants to get into Affiliate Marketing signed up with a network and ready to create their first campaign.
Basic Introduction
If this is the first time you hear the term affiliate marketing or you just heard from a friend that affiliate marketing is cool, then you should probably take some time and familiarize yourself with the term before proceeding any further. The basic flow of events chart below will help.

In very broad terms, affiliate marketing is simply the process of getting paid for pointing targeted customers to an advertiser. When those customers make a purchase, you get a percentage of the sale or in many cases, a set reward (CPA).
For a more in-depth look, check out Affiliate Marketing at Wikipedia. Once you read that article and feel comfortable in the concept and idea behind affiliate marketing, you are then ready to move on to the next step.
Affiliate Networks
Networks are basically your business partners. They are the ones who write you the check at the end of the week and are the ones who hook you up with sweet offers and payouts so choosing a reliable network is of the essence here. Without these networks you won’t be able to make any money so it is wise to get signed up to these before doing anything else. Typically these networks take anywhere from 24-48 hours to approve your account and they will more likely than not, call you for a personal interview before they approve your account. Acceptance to these networks is NOT guaranteed and you should do your best to sound professional. Keep in mind that there are a bunch of these guys running around so for this guide, I am only going to recommend the ones that I currently work or have worked with in the past. In other words, these guys are legit so you should feel confident when signing up with them.
Ads4Dough
Hydra Network
Copeac
Some other good networks:
C2M
NeverBlueAds
ClickBooth
AffRev
There are many more but these are the ones that I have worked with and they are all high quality networks with good people working for them all ready to help you make money. You want to sign up for as many of these as you possibly can since chances are you will be running offers on multiple networks. The reason being is that each network has different payouts and sometimes, you can get top payout on one network and it makes sense to run your traffic through them to get more money every time you acquire a lead. Just call them up, tell them you plan on advertising via PPC (Pay-Per-Click) and work directly with Google Adwords to acquire your traffic. They are probably going to ask you a series of other questions, including for a sample website you use in conjunction with PPC. I assume that at this point you already have a website built for an offer or at least a simple website for your business. If not, register a domain name, get some hosting, and put up a wordpress blog about any niche, a good one to start with would be health/dieting. Write a few articles on it, choose a decent looking theme, and submit that for approval. Networks usually approve those with some experience and that appear to know what they are talking about a lot quicker than a complete noob trying to enter the field so if you dont have any experience, try to document yourself a bit better on the topic and make sure your website looks somewhat legit. If you are having trouble designing a website, simply type “acai berry”, “teeth whitening”, and “colon cleanse” into google and click on a few of the sponsored listings, I think you will get the point. If you can’t design a website yourself, check out these resources and have someone do it for you:
Digital Point Forums
Check out the Buy/Sell/Trade section there. Bunch of freelance designers always looking for work you can usually get a decent looking website designed on the cheap basically 24/7.
GetaFreeLancer
Alternatively, you can post a listing on GetaFreeLancer.Com and get designers to bid on your project.
So, at this point you should have signed up for a few affiliate networks and hopefully have a decent website up to accompany each application. Right now all you can do is sit an wait for these guys to call you… NOT! Get off your butt and call the networks first. Tell them you are looking to get started ASAP and become PROACTIVE in trying to get your account approved. This will establish some credibility for you and will speed up the approval process quite a bit.
Once you get a couple of accounts approved…. it’s time to join Google Adwords. Good ole Google Adwords! You and Google will become close friends if you do get into PPC and Adwords is their platform used to serve those ads. You know, all the sponsored listings you see on Google search results and on other websites throughout the net? Yeah, you can get your ads up there as well! For a fee of course. If you know what you are doing, you can also make some serious bank with Adwords and your newly approved affiliate networks.
To get you started in your quest to learn PPC advertising, check out WickedFire.Com and read basically every thread under “Affiliate Marketing”.
